What We Covered This Week
Throughout the camp, Ninjas explored two of the world's most popular game platforms at a JR pace — using Minecraft on iPad, MakeCode for Minecraft, and Roblox Studio on laptops. Click any topic to expand.
Minecraft on iPad: Touch Controls & First Code
Met Minecraft on iPad — learned the touch controls for moving, looking, jumping, and placing or breaking blocks
Explored the gentle BBC Planet Earth III Minecraft world — Follow the Leader + Free Explore
Built their first shelter — walls, roof, door, the works
Toured MakeCode for Minecraft (Code Builder) — the interface, chat commands, and how to run code
Coded their first real project: Chicken Rain — a chat command with a repeat loop that spawns 100 chickens raining from the sky
MakeCode Deep Dive: Events & the Agent
Practiced vertical building with a Tower warm-up
Coded Mega Jump — a chat command that teleports the player high into the air using relative coordinates (the ~ symbol means "relative to where you are")
Built a Flower Trail — learned the difference between events (run automatically) and chat commands (run when you type) using the on player walked event
Met the Agent — a virtual coding robot inside Minecraft they could give instructions to (dance, move, build)
Coded the Agent to build a wall by placing blocks while moving forward in a repeat loop — instant builder!
Pixel Art, Lava Tower & Meet Roblox Studio
Built Pixel Art — emojis and characters using colored blocks on flat ground
Coded Lava Tower — a bigger MakeCode project using the Builder (a more powerful Agent) with builder place lava, builder move up in a repeat loop
Switched from iPads to laptops and met Roblox Studio
Learned the HOME tab tools (Select, Move, Scale, Rotate) and the MODEL tab parts (Block, Sphere, Wedge, Corner Wedge, Cylinder)
Explored Colors & Materials — Neon (glows!), SmoothPlastic, Wood, Brick, Ice — and added 3–5 new obstacles to a starter Obby template
Roblox Terrain, Toolbox & Castle Building
Painted custom landscapes with the Roblox Terrain Editor — grass, sand, rock, snow, and water around their Obby
Explored the Roblox Toolbox for pre-made assets — with safety habits: identify the asset, the creator (Roblox official is safest), and whether it has a script
Customized and decorated their Obby with terrain, toolbox finds, and parts — then held a Gallery Walk + Playtest to try each other's worlds
Switched back to iPads to build a Castle with towers, walls, a moat, and a bridge
Coded Gold Stairs — a chat command using the Builder with place gold, move forward, move up to construct stairs step by step
Aquarium Capstone & Parent Showcase
Coded the capstone project: Aquarium — a chat command that places glass blocks in a box shape, fills the inside with water, and spawns fish or dolphins inside
Customized the aquarium with different sizes, creatures, and surrounding decorations
Spent Final Project time picking their favorite path — build a Minecraft scene with at least one coded behavior, or expand the Roblox Obby with terrain, toolbox assets, and parts
Wrapped with a one-on-one Parent Showcase — walked you through their code, their builds, and their Roblox Obby with you sitting right beside them
